Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring a buggy into my appointment?

There is step free access to Brighton & Hove Therapies and I usually work in a room that is big enough to accommodate a pushchair but do check before hand if it is important to you. Feel free to bring your own floor mat and toys for your little one during your appointment. When my kids were little I found a BabyBjorn bouncer very useful. It folded flat and I could hang it off the pushchair handle and then put my lo in it while I was doing yoga or having a massage. Find what works for you. Once your child is crawling or walking you will need to have someone else look after them while you are receiving your massage.

How long are appointments?

Appointments are 60 minutes. However, this will usually include a short consultation and may also include tailored self-care techniques for you to use at home to enhance your recovery. If you would like a 90 minute appointment, please ask me.

Do I need to book an initial consultation?

Initial consultations are helpful to talk about your reason for seeking a remedial or deep tissue massage, any relevant medical history and how I can help you. They are usually conducted online and enable me to conduct more extensive range of movement (ROM) tests and prepare a treatment plan in advance so that more of your appointment time is spent on the table receiving massage.

Will I be covered during my massage?

You will be asked to undress down to your underwear for the massage and get on a massage couch and under the towel - I will be outside the treatment room and will come in once you say you are ready. You will be fully draped at all times during the massage to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being massage will be exposed.

I have a table warmer I can turn on if, like me, you feel the cold. Please ask.

Self Care

Where appropriate, at the end of your session I will provide specific self care instructions relating to your treatment such as stretches, mobilisations, mindfulness or strengthening exercises. If agreed we can also arrange a follow-up aftercare session - via Zoom or over the phone. This can help remedial massage clients achieve their agreed upon outcome in a timely fashion.

Aftercare Advice

Most clients feel a sense of deep relaxation following treatment. However, please be aware that there are a number of natural reactions which can also occur. These may include tenderness, soreness, heat or redness around the area treated. This is quite normal and are a part of the healing process within the tissue. They usually last between 24 to 72 hours.

Be sure to drink plenty of water, eat a light meal or snack, take it easy for 24 hours and avoid drinking alcohol.

How many appointments will I need to book with you?

That depends on your reason for coming to see me. Someone who has been in chronic pain for a number of months may need to come and see me once a week for up to six weeks to achieve a reduction in their pain. Some conditions, such as frozen shoulder, may require considerably longer. Once we see a consistent reduction in pain that lasts between treatments we will increase the time between appointments. Some clients may move onto maintenance treatments of once a month/every six weeks or whatever suits. Others simply want a relaxing hot stone massage and a bit of ‘me time’.

What is your cancellation policy?

You can cancel or reschedule your appointment for free 48 hours before your appointment. After this period you will be charged 50% of the full price of the appointment.
